The acai berry has been widely touted as a superfood for it’s antioxidant and metabolic properties. This Brazilian Palm berry is flying off store shelves and into the hands of people desperate to find safe diet pills. What is the truth about the acai berry?
Texas AgriLife Research scientists enlisted twelve healthy volunteers to test the absorption of antioxidants in human subjects. The results showed that at 12 and 24 hours hours after consumption the blood and urine samples indicated elevated antioxidant levels. In this first ever study of the properties of the acai berry, the results are encouraging. Further studies will help determine the ideal consumption levels.
